Maksum – Baladi – Saidi

Rhythms Maksum, Baladi and Saidi

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Arabic rhythms tutorial. Today we are going to learn three different rhythms, which are all 4/4 rhythms.

The first one is called Maksum, which in Arabic means "divided in equal parts". Maksum is very popular and you will find it in a grand variety of Arabic music.

You will hear it as:

DUM - TAC - TAC - DUM - TAC

Our second rhythm is called Baladi. Baladi means my country and it is a very traditional and folklore type of music and dance. You will find this rhythm mainly in Baladi compositions but it sometimes appears in the middle of opening songs.

The rhythm is:

DUM - DUM -TAC - DUM - TAC

Our last rhythm is called Saidi. It is a folklore rhythm, from the Said region in Egypt. It is used  for Raqs el Assaya, or dance of the cane.

The Saidi rhythm is:

DUM - TAC - DUM - DUM - TAC

Below, I will leave three videos so you can listen to these rhythms and  have a better understanding of them.

Thank you for reading and keep moving towards your dreams!
